Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player won his initial championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

The win also indicates the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

The player's retrieving play style and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.

But the player has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an better serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He defended four early chances in a tight third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
